Ask effective questions and follow up on an insight

Give the Agent a clear goal, then use follow-up questions to turn broad findings into specific, evidence-backed recommendations.

Written by Rohan Hayes

Start with a focused question

Select the primary company and relevant competitors on the Agent page. Or hit "Get Insight" anywhere.

Tell the Agent what you’re investigating and why.

Instead of 👉 Analyse this company.

Try 👉 We’re a paid media agency preparing for a first sales call. What differences in this company’s advertising versus its competitors are worth discussing?

Useful context includes your services, the person you’re speaking to and the decision you want to make.

Ask questions that lead somewhere

  • Find a sales angle: “What is the strongest evidence-backed opportunity we could raise with their marketing director?”

  • Compare positioning: “Which claims does this company share with competitors, and which appear distinctive?”

  • Explore customer feedback: “Which recurring complaints could inform better website messaging?”

  • Investigate search: “Where do competitors appear stronger in non-branded organic search?”

Keep each question focused on one job.

Follow up on the strongest finding

You don’t need to restart the analysis. Refer to the finding and ask the Agent to narrow, explain or challenge it.

1️⃣ Request evidence

Which ads, reviews or website pages support that conclusion?

2️⃣ Check the strength of the claim

Is this a recurring pattern or based on a few examples? Give the counts and coverage where available.

3️⃣ Separate observation from interpretation

What does the data directly show, and what are you inferring? What remains unknown?

4️⃣ Test an alternative

What else could explain this pattern, and what would we need to check?

Make the result usable

Specify the format and audience 👉 Turn the strongest finding into a three-sentence sales opener: observation, possible implication and a question.

Or 👉 Give me three recommendations, each with supporting evidence and a suggested next step.

We'd love to hear any ideas, feedback or just a good old hello 👋
